About Us.
In the late 1800's, the Townsend family came to Chippewa Lake and created the estate that is now The Oaks Lakeside Restaurant. Five prominent oaks that stood in a semi-circle on the front lawn gave the estate its original name: Five Oaks. Oscar Townsend added a barn, a carriage house, a boathouse and formal gardens. He designed the unique portico with a latticed roof and thirty-six Tuscan columns leading to it. One of Oscar's passions was collecting stones from around the world. He used them to create the two interior fireplaces still enjoyed by the patrons of The Oaks Lakeside on a cold winter evening.
By the early 1900's, the estate had become a standard for hospitality and gracious living in Medina County, and played host to the rich and famous of the day. The estate operated as a dining establishment and bar when it was purchased in 1961 by Don Casper and Al Hitchins. The two continued as joint owners until Al's death in 1986. Don remained the sole owner until his passing in 2003. In the summer of 2004, Johnny & Audrey Pollizi partnered with Don's three nieces; Bonnie Casper Drushal, Cheryl Casper Iaquinta and Holli Stille Boylan. Johnny and Audrey spearheaded our ongoing success for next 15 years. Now, a third generation of the Don Casper family is working with our excellent staff to build upon our legendary hospitality, menu of customer favorites and the historical charm of our unique property.
The Oaks has become well known for the beautiful wedding ceremonies and receptions held on the property as well as our traditional Easter, Mother's Day and Thanksgiving Buffets.
The Oaks offers the finest in al fresco lakeside dining. In the colder months, join us and have a seat next to one of our cozy fires or a lake view table to watch the fall colors or a gentle snow over the lake. No matter what time of year, the sunsets are always incredible. Our seating is often limited, so reservations are advised and often required.
Our dinner menu changes seasonally as our chefs are inspired by fresh, local harvests. Come out and enjoy a relaxing dinner and a stroll down by the lake to see the beauty for yourself. We look forward to seeing you.
